It's Show Time by Leada Wood

It's Show Time Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

It is show time in Texas...stockshow that is. My grandsons raise Boer goats and it is a lot of work and dedication, for the boys as well as their parents. During ice storms, snow storms or rainy weather those goats have to be fed, watered and walked. Then comes the fun of the show! Those goats still have to be fed, watered and walked but at least they do get to go to some fun places to show. I am proud of all the young people learning hard work and dedication through 4H and FFA. Good luck boys!

Oil Painting of Pretty Dog Named Prissy

PRISSY
oil on canvas panel
copyright V. Bridges Hoyt 2009

I came across this painting as I was cleaning out some image files. This was painted in 2009 when I was into completion of a painting a day. At the time I was turning out paintings at a fast pace and I barely had time to look at and critique a painting before it was listed and sold. When I stumbled across the painting of Prissy, I smiled. The painting was much prettier than I remembered it. Sometimes we need to slow down and observe what we are doing, not hurry the paintings out the door. I would have enjoyed having Prissy hanging on my own gallery wall for a few months, but the painting of Prissy went to a good home in Kansas, and for that I am glad.

A Frilly Lichen drawing by Linda S. Wright

"Nature's Frills"
7"x 5"
Graphite, Charcoal and a touch of colored pencil
Available
The lichens that are so common on the live oaks in our area are fascinating. Some are flat and relatively uninteresting, others, such as the one I drew here, are beautiful and complex. Their blue-gray coloring is beautiful and I plan on using color on the next one I draw.

Roadrunner by Leada Wood

Roadrunner Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

Roadrunners fascinate me and they live in the pasture around our house so it is fun to watch them. I have one who brings gifts of rocks and sticks and lays them at our front door. I catch them sneaking over the back fence and peaking in the glass doors. Apparently they are very curious birds and fearless. They catch lizards and snakes and other critters. Roadrunners are monogamous birds and offer gifts during courtship...guess that cuckoo is courting his reflection in the glass. The roadrunners  are a member of the cuckoo family and maybe why they fit in on our place!

Portrait of Petunia Goat by Linda S. Wright

"Petunia"
10" x 8 "
colored pencil and watercolor

Our neighbors raise goats and Petunia is a favorite. There was a scare at one time that Petunia had been eaten by a coyote. When it was discovered that she was alive and well, I was asked to do a portrait of her for posterity. Petunia is the matriarch of the goat herd and still doing quite well.

Sunflower Art by Vernita Hoyt

Sunflower, the art of Sunshine

Into each life some rain must fall, it is said. I say that we each need to find our sunshine, and I find mine in painting sunflowers through the cold, damp winter months of southeast Texas.

"Buddies" by Linda S. Wright

"Buddies"
5"x 7"
colored pencil

This small drawing was done from a photograph my daughter-in-law took of her three-year-old son (our grandson) walking along with our good friend, who owns a ranch right down the road. They were walking in the pasture, following the goats, chatting as they went. Our son and daughter-in-law loved the piece, even though I wasn't entirely happy with it. I rarely draw people so this was more of an experiment for me than anything else. It now hangs in my grandson's bedroom.

Caracara Portrait by Linda S. Wright

"The Watcher"
14" x 11"
Colored Pencil
available

This was drawn using a wonderful photograph by Glenn Dickey, who graciously gave me permission to use it as reference. It earned an honorable mention in our local Fiesta de la Paloma art show, this past October.
Caracaras are members of the falcon family of birds, eating carrion as a vulture does and also taking prey like a hawk. They are also referred to as the "Mexican Eagle" and are the national bird of Mexico.

I Hannas Postcard Swap by Leada Wood

I recently was involved with a world wide postcard swap where you receive 10 names and addresses and create postcards and send them.  I had forgotten how much fun it was receiving mail...real mail not bills and advertisements. It made every day an adventure...waiting to see what came in the post. All were very creative cards and one came with bits and bobs of handmade paper and ribbon. They came from all over the USA as well as England, Canada and Australia. I wanted to share them here with you! Wishing you a wonderful new year full of peace and joy!

These are some of the ones I received.

These are the ones I made for the swap.
