Rottweiler Dogs in Field of Texas Bluebonnets

Rotties in Texas Bluebonnets
watercolor 11x14 commissioned painting
© Vernita Bridges Hoyt 2014

This watercolor painting of Rottweiler dogs sitting in a field of bluebonnets was a commissioned painting to be used as a Christmas gift. I enjoyed painting this as it included so many of my favorite subjects, i.e. the dogs, the landscape, and the field of Texas bluebonnet wildflowers.

Glad Tidings, by Leada Wood

Glad Tidings was created for Angels Among Us show at the Heritage Museum a few years ago. A small group of  6 artists come up with a theme each year for an exhibition at the Heritage museum celebrating their Christmas extravaganza.  It's fun for us to create various paintings and amazing to see the different interpretations of the theme. The paintings are for sale but we feel that we are giving Christmas Cheer to the community each year by doing the exhibitions.

Wishing you a New Year full of Glad Tidings and great joy!

This painting is not available but prints and card are available.

Fiddlin' Santa by Leada Wood

My daddy was a fiddler...in fact he could play nearly any musical instrument and he played by ear. I come from a musical family, nearly every Sunday afternoon was spent at a relatives house. The family band played gospel and country music...I can still hear the songs in my mind. The family band is gone but not the sweet memories. Wishing you a Merry Christmas filled with fond memories, family and friends!

Lizard on Guard

"On Guard"
8" x 16"
Graphite and charcoal on paper
These lizards are quite common in our area, Texas Spotted Whiptail. One morning, I happened upon this female guarding her nest hole, which you can see near her back leg. I was able to get several photos to use as reference, she wasn't leaving that hole!

Woodland Santa by Leada Wood

Woodland Santa came about after a shopping excursion with my granddaughters. I love all the eye candy at Christmas! All the colors, whimsical decorations, the music in the air and the scents...ahh I love Christmas! I am truly a kid at heart when it come to Christmas!

I had a very hard time not decorating my house before Christmas as we had a couple of really cold weeks that felt like Christmas but I resisted and kept my fall decorations through Thanksgiving...traditions.

Brown Pelican at Smith Point on Galveston Bay

I have been busy painting commissioned works. This was the first and only one I can show until after Christmas. The pelican was tangled in a fishing line with a hook and line around its beak. My client's husband and son were able to calm the pelican and remove the hook and line and set the pelican free.

Texan Pioneer Pigeon

"Texan Pioneer"
5" x 7"
Watercolor on watercolor board

My husband raises Texan Pioneer pigeons, a large breed with quite varied colors. I had bought some iridescent medium for watercolor and felt a pigeon painting would be a good test. Their feathers have quite a lot of beautiful iridescence. It is difficult to tell from this photo, but the medium worked quite well and I had fun with this experiment!

Nutty Trio, by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Nutty Trio ©Leada Wood

I love Christmas! One of my favorite things each year is designing a Christmas card to send to my friends. Nutty Trio was in a Santa exhibition at the Heritage Museum a few years ago. It is exciting to do a themed show and see how many different paintings you can come up with as a group. I collect nutcrackers and these three were painted from my collection. I think I have inspired myself to paint a nutcracker again!

This painting is not available but prints and cards are available.

Our Girl, Callie- A Study

"Callie"
5" x 7" graphite study

I did this study a couple of years ago, of our Catahoula mix, Callie. We lost her this past June and it has left a big hole in our lives. Eventually, I plan on doing at least one finished drawing of her.
