Cat on Windowsill

Sketchbook drawing of Cat on Windowsill.

This, as are most of my sketches, is a study. The pencil drawing is complete but wc washes are incomplete. The paper in this sketchbook was not heavy enough to accept watercolor washes without buckling. I might one day paint this on a larger sheet of watercolor paper. As always, this piece is copyright Vernita Hoyt.

Puppy Looking for a Home

Looking for a Home
pastel on Mi Tientes black paper
copyright Vernita Hoyt

This pastel piece is in a private collection in Texas.

This is one of the many homeless dogs I have painted or drawn since 2006.
Soft pastel sticks are great for showing texture in an animal's fur.
I do love working with pastel pigments.

Remember to check your local dog and cat rescue when you're looking for a new pet.
Rescues make great pets.

The tulip study was a demonstration in a watercolor class I taught showing the dramatic effects of negative painting around a subject.

What are Daily Paintings? Simply said, a daily painting is one painting a day, each begun and completed in the same day.

Having not posted in some time, I decided the time to begin again is now. Over the past three or four years, my large paintings have been few. I have, however, painted a few small watercolors. Small paintings are what I will show you here—small ones that have been painted in a fraction of a day.

Thank you!
