Watercolor of Blue Crab by Leada Wood

"Beach Bum" Copyright Leada Wood

This feisty fella was found on St. Jo's Island while we were beachcombing. There is something about walking on a deserted island only reachable by boat to set your imagination reeling. Nearly every visit to Padre Island has to have a morning at St. Jo's Island.

Indian Pottery Watercolor continued

Indian Pottery #2
Watercolor on board
Approx. 8"x 8"
Available

This is another example of a watercolor done in a Ginger Test watercolor class, from a few years ago. Like the one I posted here last week, this one is OK for texture but not so good in roundness and curves. I would enjoy taking up this type of painting again.

Indian Pottery watercolor

Indian Pot
Watercolor on board

About three years ago, I took a class in watercolor from local artist/teacher Ginger Test. She had photos of old Indian pots that we used in class. She used these to teach us to show texture and roundness. I think I got the texture part down but now so sure about the roundness part! She also showed us how to do an interesting background using plastic wrap and pooled watercolors. It was a fun class.

Gelli Print Mermaid, Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Gelli Mermaid by Leada Wood ©2015

I presented a demo on Gelli Printing for the Big Spring Art Association and I used a Gelli Print to make a cover for a sketch book I gave as a door prize . The print looked watery and reminded me of the ocean so I embellished it with a little mermaid and a few bubbles and a pearl.

Black-crested Titmouse Studies

Black-crested Titmouse
Sketches

I was fortunate one morning, to find a Black-crested Titmouse that allowed me to take quite a few photos, while it went through all of its antics in a tree above me. From some of those photos, I made pencil sketches in preparation for a more complete work. That work is still in the idea phase but I hope to get to it soon. These little birds are quite common around here, always on the move.

Watercolor Bluebird

Bluebird Study
Watercolor

While visiting a friend in Fredericksburg, TX a couple of years ago, she was busy working on an art commission. I spent my time doing various studies, using my small watercolor kit and tablet. This was one of those studies and was inspired by a photo I took of a Bluebird perched on a hook outside my house.  Doing small studies like this is fun and I need to get back to doing them.
