WIP Commission by Debbie Cannatella

Madi and Sam
22"x30" transparent watercolor
work in progress

I mentioned I was bogged down with commissions, and when that happens, its hard for me to paint 'just for myself'.  My full sheet commissions usually take place slowly as I paint in layers, letting it dry fully between each. This piece is a commission I'm currently working on. I sketch out the subjects then mask the children so that I can lay in the water behind them without breaking color and value. Once I get the lake and shore pretty much the way I want, I remove the masking. The surf will be painted toward the end. I'm sure I will continue to work on details of the water, etc, but don't need the forms blocked out to do that. I then lay in the main subjects. I won't go very detailed with strong color in the background, because the painting isn't about the background. I like to get the figures about 75% blocked in, then will detail out the rest at the very end. I will post the final product once its completed.

Catchin' Rays

"Catchin' Rays"
12"x 9"
Charcoal and Colored Pencil

I truly enjoy Vultures. The provide a valuable clean-up service for our environment and are the the most beautiful flyers, soaring without flapping a wing for what seems like ages. I saw these two one morning on my hike and took several pictures of them.  This piece is currently on display at the Lee Bunch Studio Gallery in Del Rio, TX.

Storytelling-Sketchbook Skool
The Homework was to illustrate a recipe as well as a manual on  'how to do something'
So, I tried to simplify after doing the huge pie! My manual is on 'how to plant Tulip Bulbs'
and another recipe on Breakfast Burritos. Where we live burritos are a big part of our menus.
You can make a burrito out of most anything, but is really good with eggs, peppers and potatoes!

Tais Meditation
15"x22" transparent watercolor
$550

Even in my abstract work, which I don't often indulge in, I become a bit detailed. This abstract utilizes watercolor, fluid acrylic, and Rapidiograph pen with ink. It began with a strong cruciform composition, which was muted when layered. The fluid, circular forms add a bit of tension against the cruciform, and I wanted to trap light and bright hues toward the middle. Its always fun for me to start an abstract with the elements of design foremost in my mind.  The lack of needing the forms to resemble something frees me to think about  composition instead. I painted a companion piece to this one, which I will post down the road.

"Moonflowers" by Leada Wood

Moonflowers by Leada Wood ©2013

I saw moonflowers blooming today by an old house in town. They always remind me of my grandmother. She always had such pretty flowers in her garden but the moonflowers fascinated me the most. Maybe it was the name or maybe because they only bloom in late evening and at night. Moonflowers is a watercolor and is 14x22.

Late Friday post!

Hello all!  I just got back in town after a nice little vacation cruising, so I'm running a little behind on posting today.   Here is a monochromatic portrait in watercolor and watercolor pencil.  I love drawing and painting portraits and this one was done from inspiration from the Sktchy phone app.

30 Day Challenge Over!

Contact me through the Contact Form in the blog sidebar.
Now if I will just keep going!  It has been harder this time than the first. I think because I did mostly watercolors, and they are harder to paint than oil or acrylic. (for me anyway)  I had fun experimenting with the huge brush and ink. This has been good because I have some up with some new ideas, and hopefully I will paint more.  As with last time, I wondered at times WHY did I do this challenge but when it's all said and done, I am glad I did. It pushed me and challenged me.  Actually one of the hardest things for me is finding what I want to paint.
all of these are available. suzy_pal2000@yahoo.com
