This is an older painting but one of my favorites, since I love western art the most!
I took pics at a cowboy symposium a few years ago, and this is from that fun time.

Scarlet Ibis have an amazingly beautiful color and can be seen flying for miles. There is something that I love about shorebirds, particularly the Ibis with its curved beak and feeding habits in shallow water. This piece has detail linking the two birds and fades to the more unfinished, ethereal as it moves outward... as if the story is still being written. This painting took second place in a recent juried exhibition for south Texas artists.

Giclee prints are available for this piece. For prices on prints or for more works or to contact me directly, view the website for my STUDIO or my GALLERY.

Tulip Cat

Acrylic Sketch on Canvas Paper

Contact me for size and purchase info.

This Maine Coon cat had good taste in floral arrangements and loved to cuddle up on the table next to flowers. This quick piece was sketched from life. I worked quickly since I had no idea if the cat would stay or move.

This regal leopard is painted with glowing washes of transparent watercolor. I always begin with the eyes... and from there a relationship develops with my subject on the page. This is a wonderful addition for any wildlife lover.

I had every intention of posting first thing this morning but my gallery was packed with people today and I couldn't break away. I chose this painting today because it was selected for the 37th  Southern Watercolor Society National Exhibition to be held this year in the state of Texas. Each year, the exhibition is held in one of the 18 states in its region, so the exhibition won't be back here for another 18 years! The opening reception is held at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center in Kerrville, Texas on April 12th.

I lucked into visiting the San Antonio Zoo during fledgling season when hundreds of cattle egrets were nesting in the tree tops with their babies. I must have watched them for an hour, sketching and making notes about their behavior. This piece will be available at the SW Exhibition for sale.

Giclee prints are available for this piece. For prices or for more works or to contact me directly, view the website for my STUDIO or my GALLERY.

ART HELPING BOXERS—
Sale Pending
HENRY BOXER
watercolor wash and ink line
on Arches 140 lb. hot press paper
5 x 7 inches
copyright Vernita Bridges Hoyt

This casual wash and line painting of Henry was painted to generate a donation to Legacy Boxer Rescue in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area of Texas. Henry's mom-woman has seen the painting and wants to purchase it. The funds will be donated to Legacy Boxer Rescue as soon as the payment of $45 arrives in the mail, at which time the painting will ship to its new home.

For my ART HELPING BOXERS fundraiser, I offered pet portraits for half my typical commission fee in hopes that the paintings will sell quickly thereby generating funds to help ownerless Boxer dogs. The deadline for requesting a portrait in this fundraiser was December 2013. There were so many requests, I am still painting from the request list. All fundraiser proceeds (less shipping costs) are donated to help a Boxer rescue organization.

Inquire here to commission a portrait of your pet in watercolor, oil or pastel. You will find more examples of my pet portraits at TXsauce.net

Sketch: Table and Two Chairs

From my sketchbook, a contour line drawing study of a table and two chairs.  I would love to do more of these and need to get back to my sketchbook.

copyright Vernita Bridges Hoyt 2012

A sketchbook can be a journal of one's daily progress in art. When I take the time to sketch daily, I find a consistent improvement in my drawing skills. The time spent sketching relaxes and inspires my mind simultaneously. When I reach that zen-like zone, my hand seems to move of its own free will without any control from me. What a wonderful feeling! The zone of meditation comes easily when I am focused on the subject at hand.
