This drawing (8x10) was in experiment on a new substrate for me, Clay board. I used a photo I took of a donkey that lived next door to a friend in Fredericksburg, TX. Surface is a bit too smooth to build up enough layers to get things as dark as they need to be. One nice thing about using the board, however, is that, once the work is sprayed with fixative, it can be framed without glass. I used graphite to get the initial drawing down then went back in with Cretacolor Nero pencils, oil-based charcoal pencils that don't cause the shine that a build of of graphite will.
